Poole Inclusive Paddleboarding Experience

The Poole Inclusive Paddleboarding Experience

The Location

We offer people with disabilities, physical and mental health conditions- the opportunity to Paddleboard, using our British made Paddleboard Seat systems.

The project will be based at South Coast Adventures (Hamworthy Park, Lulworth Ave, Poole BH15 4DH), a Kayaking and Paddleboarding centre in Hamworthy, overlooking Poole harbour and only 2 miles away from Poole town centre.

What to expect

  • You will be offered 5 x 2hr sessions (1hr on the water), where you will learn the basics of Paddleboarding including water safety in a safe and protected area.
  • You will work 1:1 with a qualified and experienced instructor.
  • You are encouraged to bring a friend, family member or carer who will have the chance to Paddle with you.
  • Each session costs £25.
  • After your five sessions we can provide you with additional information on local Paddleboarding opportunities.

About the centre

The centre is 300 m from the car park and 350 m from the ‘Harbour Breeze no. 60 bus route’. All routes to the centre and the water are tarmac.  The centre has an accessible toilet and changing facilities and is 100m from the water.

There are a number of places to launch from and we use a quiet, sheltered area of water to run our sessions.

Equipment

  • You will have access to appropriate clothing, buoyancy aids and Paddleboarding equipment, although you can bring your own with you.
  • To make this programme fully accessible we have developed and built a range of revolutionary new Paddleboard seats and Paddleboard Kneeling Seat supports. These have been produced specifically to support Paddleboarders who are unable to, or have difficulty standing on a Paddleboard.

Monitoring and Evaluation

You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire at the beginning and the end of your five sessions. This will help us identify how you have progressed and what we can do to improve sessions in the future.

You will also be invited to participate in a video interview to capture the difference your Paddleboarding experience has made to you. This will be used to promote the project and encourage more people to get involved.

Next steps

If you have a disability or any physical/mental health conditions and would like to try Paddleboarding, please click on the booking form below and fill out the questionnaire. This will help us assess your current level of activity and how we can best support you to get out on the water, Paddleboarding.
